Green Dragon Cake by The-EvIl-Plankton Green Dragon Cake by The-EvIl-Plankton
This was a large scuplted cake
enough to feed about 50 people
it is ENTIRELY edible
the free standing spines and teeth are made of chocolate
so is the skull
the rest is cake and icing there is not so much as a tooth pick in it :)

This cake was made for a six year old boys birthday party. He and his many friends dined on dragon that day.

It took nine hours to make it and it would take me almost as long to give your question a detailed answer. I'm a very slow typist heh heh....

Well lat me ask you about some details then. How did you make the scale and the eye? And I have to ask, if you know...how much did this beast weigh?!

The scales were piped in icing using a small rose tip. The eyes are the only fondant on the entire cake.  They are just rolled balls of yellow fondant inserted into the white chocolate eye sockets and detail painted with food colors before the surrounding scales were piped.

Utterly phenomenal. Could I ask, are the scales piped icing? Or another method?

Yes , the scales are all piped icing. The spines and teeth are chocolate candy melts.

As a cake artist you see your artwork destroyed on a daily basis. You have to be kind of zen about it. Besides you still have the photos and the memories

May I ask a possibly obvious question: was this inspired by the Green Dragon pub in Middle-Earth?

That looks amazing! At first I thought it was a mistake when it popped up as a cake, but that only proves how skilled you are. There is so much detail, you can't sepparate it from an actual sculpture.

I'm just wondering, when and how did you begin making cakes like this? It must have cost an aweful lot of practise.

I'm self taught and have been doing cakes for about ten years now. This cake would cost about $400 at the bakery I work at. I don't set the prices , I just make the cakes. This cake took about 9 hours. And thanks , I'm glad u like it.     Rita
